Welcome to Stockholm City Hall Restaurants

We are responsible for all food, beverages, and guest experiences in the Stockholm City Hall – from grand banquets in the Blue Hall to everyday lunches at Ragnars Skafferi.

We take pride in our role at the Nobel Banquet, one of the world’s most renowned dinners. The same dedication, craftsmanship, and attention to detail shape every meal we prepare, whether you are joining us for a simple coffee or one of life’s grandest celebrations.

We warmly invite you to explore our gastronomic world, where passion for ingredients, flavour, and hospitality is always at the forefront.

Since 2012, Stadshusrestauranger Stockholm AB has been responsible for all restaurant and banquet operations within Stockholm City Hall. Our work encompasses the two public restaurants, Stadshuskällaren and Ragnars Skafferi, as well as the banquets held in the Blue Hall and Golden Hall.

We have carefully refurbished our restaurants to reflect both the proud traditions of City Hall and the vibrancy of modern Stockholm. Here, history meets the present, and ceremonial splendour meets everyday life – always with food, drink, and creativity at the centre.

Stadshusrestauranger is part of the Food Family, a family-owned company with extensive experience in creating dining experiences in some of Sweden’s most remarkable venues – from castles and theatres to exhibitions and restaurants.

Curated Spaces for Exceptional Experiences

Every meal is crafted with care

  • Banquets and Events

Hosting a banquet at Stockholm City Hall is a truly unique experience. In one of the world’s most celebrated event venues, we create occasions that combine high-level gastronomy with historic and spectacular surroundings.

  • Stadshuskällaren

One floor below City Hall, Stadshuskällaren blends 1920s charm with modern design. Since 1922, it has been a cornerstone of Stockholm dining – and the only place in the world where you can enjoy historical Nobel menus served on the Nobel service.

  • Ragnars Skafferi

Overlooking Borgargården, Ragnars Skafferi is our welcoming lunch restaurant named after City Hall’s architect, Ragnar Östberg. Here we serve breakfast, lunch, and coffee – all prepared from scratch with care and quality in every detail.

Food Family

Our Story

Food Family is, at heart, a story about passion – for food, for hospitality, and for people. It began with Åke Johansson in the 1960s, when he opened his first self-service restaurant and beer bar at S:t Eriksmässan in Stockholm. By then, Åke had already gathered experience from some of Europe’s finest dining rooms – from the Ritz in Paris to Stockholm institutions such as Riche and Stallmästaregården – and he carried with him a conviction that gastronomy was about more than what was placed on the plate.

For Åke, the magic lay in the meeting itself: listening to the guest, anticipating needs before they were spoken, and creating experiences marked by care and attention. This philosophy placed him among an exclusive group of Swedish restaurant pioneers – his name is inscribed in Visita’s Hall of Fame, alongside some of the greatest in the industry.

Yet Åke was never one to seek the spotlight. He believed the work should speak for itself – a blend of craftsmanship, thrift, and a natural respect for every guest. These same values were carried forward by his daughters, Maria Stridh and Kerstin Johansson, who took up the baton with the same ambition and presence. Alongside developing the family’s own restaurants, they also gave back to the wider industry through their engagement in Bocuse d’Or, the Swedish Chef of the Year competition, and the training of future chefs.

Today, the next generation has joined the story. Sons Mattias, Fredrik and Johan – together with colleagues who share the same passion – make Food Family exactly what the name suggests: a family. A place where heritage meets the future, where meals become meeting points, and where every guest becomes part of the story.

From the early days in a modest kitchen at S:t Eriksmässan to today’s grand banquets hosting thousands of guests – much has changed. But the love for food, for people, and for the moments created around the table has remained constant.

For us, food is never just nourishment. It is culture, connection, and memory. That is why we are called Food Family.

Our Culinary Philosophy

Every meal at Stadshusrestauranger is crafted with care. Our menus follow the Swedish seasons, highlighting ingredients from forests, seas, fields, and meadows.

We prepare all dishes from scratch, respecting the origin of each ingredient and striving for sustainability at every stage. From the Nobel Banquet to a simple lunch, our goal is to create moments where taste, setting, and hospitality come together in a harmonious experience.

Focus on Safety

Stockholm City Hall is a protected site and one of the country’s most iconic buildings. This means that security is always a central element of our operations. As the team responsible for food, beverages, and guest experiences, we are well-versed in working in this unique environment, where historic architecture, ceremonial events, and international gatherings intersect.

We are highly familiar with the stringent requirements for security and logistics associated with state visits, the Nobel Banquet, corporate events, and private functions. In close collaboration with security authorities, we plan guest flows, deliveries, and service operations so that every moment is conducted discreetly, professionally, and safely.

For us, security is more than a formal requirement – it is a natural part of our hospitality. Our experience, routines, and attention to detail ensure that both guests and organisers can have complete confidence that everything will run smoothly, regardless of the event’s size or nature.

Our Role in Society

We believe in making a difference, both large and small. That is why we support organisations and initiatives that promote gastronomy, education, and human rights:

  • World Children’s Prize – working towards a more democratic and compassionate world.

  • Bocuse d’Or – supporting Sweden’s chefs on the international culinary stage.

  • Åke Johansson Scholarship Fund – supporting the next generation of hospitality professionals.

Sustainability and Environment

Caring for the environment is a natural priority for us. We actively use organic ingredients, seasonally inspired menus, and consistently work to reduce food waste. Our restaurants are certified by the Swan Ecolabel and KRAV and are proud Biogas Ambassadors.

Through careful sourcing, sustainable cooking, and circular solutions, we ensure that every meal contributes to a more sustainable society. Our ambition is to be a model for gastronomy and environmental responsibility – today and for the future.
